Bejuk

Bejuk are a race of cow-like humanoids, only known to exist within or from The Caravan.

Characteristics

Bejuk are usually significantly taller than humans, averaging around 6'4" in adulthood. Much of this height comes from their cloven hooves and unguligrade leg structure. Because of this, it is not uncommon for adult Bejuk to have trouble walking without assistance.

Bejuk usually have orange to brown skin and pale hair, as well as cow-like eats and rectangular irises. All Bejuk grow horns of some kind, the exact size and design varying between individuals.

Cultural Significance

Most people's only interaction with Bejuk are in market contexts during visits from The Caravan. In this regard, however, Bejuk usually have rather positive reputations as generous and friendly, if easy to take advantage of and unable to keep a secret. Ecologist Jan Silverstein suggests there may be an evolutionary advantage for a race that is adapted for herd life to have a social and selfless nature.

Distribution

Bejuk in the Imperial States trace their ancestry to Bejuk who lived in the cove of Barivoa, ocassionally trading with the Shahi'arla. The Barivoan River dried up in 176 LE, which triggered a mass migration of Bejuk to the Meridán Region, where most continued an itinerant lifestyle and formed The Caravan. Many have also settled down in various places across the Imperial States, these Bejuk often called "deserters" (the term originating from Bejuk who choose to settle down when the Barivoans passed through the Sita'arlan desert).
