Goblin
Goblins are highly diverse race of humanoids, present in almost all parts of Ittoril in subgroups too numerous to describe.
Characteristics
Goblins are the race which exhibits the most variety out of any known on Ittoril, and so there are not many traits that are common to all Goblins. Individuals and groups are adapted for different environments, there existing forest goblins, arctic goblins, aquatic goblins, mountain goblins, cave goblins, city goblins, and so on.
Goblins may have all manner of skin tones, textures, hair, nose shapes, ear shapes, and can even have quite remarkable traits, such as gills or additional eyes. Generally speaking, however, Goblins do not live past 60 years old, and are usually much shorter and smaller than other races.
Ecologist Jan Silverstein theorises that goblins have a unique ability to adapt to their environment, their physical characteristics being not just hereditary but able to change over the course of their lives.
Cultural Significance
Goblins are generally treated somewhat poorly; many people possess an understanding of Goblins as wild and uncivilised, much akin to barbarians, whether they come from the Imperial States or not. There are many traditional stories in which Goblins and Goblin dens are either nuisances or instigators of conflict, engaging in theft, kidnapping, or blocking travel.
Distribution
Goblins can be found almost everywhere. They tend to live in small family groups called "dens", though many also live alone. Especially now, there is a significant number of Goblins who have integrated themselves into urban society.
