Demographics

The modern Torudy population is generally of diverse descent, including Leonid half-elves in the majority, as well as numbers of Orcs, Goblins, Sproutlings, and Worldborn.

Culture

Since the end of the Zotov Dynasty, Torudy culture has been rather eclectic. There is little organised religion, most individuals subscribing to a blend of Folk Religion with Dissentist Leonism --- even borrowing elements from Elven Mythology, The Four Ways, and Salt Alchemy. Since the collapse, there has also been a growing number of followers of the Tradition of Science.

This ecleticism extends to language, where Leonic and Elvish vocabulary is increasingly borrowed into the native Torenne language. A highly popular wrestling tradition has also developed, based on glorified stereotypes of Leonid Civilisation and the fallen Zotov Dynasty.

Unique elements of Torudy culture generally stem from the Khvorot, including rituals around hygiene, fear of illness, and a mythologised glorious past.

History

The Raeigne was but one of several very successful kingdoms on the Stolidy Coast, ruled by the long lasting Zotov Dynasty and made wealthy by their supply of Gold and other natural resources. During the 140s, The Raeigne was invaded and eventually surrendered to the Leonid Empire in 149 LE during the Stolidy Coast invasion. The Zotov Dynasty was allowed to maintain rulership in the Raeigne as a vassal to the Empress of Leona, though their economy faced sustained losses. Ruin continued with the Plague Hills Breach in 189 LE, which caused a steady decline until the deaths of the Zotovs in 215 LE.

The period following this has involved much infighting and wars of succession. The continuing plague made the region undesirable for other nations, and so the Toreigne was recognised as a state in its own right during the Treaty of Leona, Allegio Tora, one of several candidates for the throne, being the state's signatory.

The name "Toreigne" arose during these wars of succession, and either derives from the Torenne word "Torel" meaning "mourning", or to Allegio Tora himself.

Government

The Toreigne is recognised as a sovereign Imperial State under the Treaty of Leona, but has no singular leadership. For the most part, it remains in a state of anarchy, with several factions each claiming their own authority.
